Principal’s Perspective

~ September 3, 2010

What a busy, yet smooth beginning to our school year we have had!  When visiting classrooms, children seem at ease as they share information about last year’s learning, summer vacation, and hopes for the future.  In addition, it is exciting to see the students begin to settle in with peers as they hear about expectations in regard to curriculum and behaviors as we work, learn and grow together.  Thank you for your support in these endeavors!

Our Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant Programs are up and running.  We have many students participating in these technology-based programs which are designed to strengthen language, literacy and processing skills and prepare students for classroom success.  If you would like more information, please call the school at 287-5212.

Special thanks to Mrs. Jen DaCosta, the new PTO President, for all of her efforts in organizing the First-Week Celebration.  The students had a great time as they toured the fire engine, listened to the music and got their faces painted.  Special thanks to members of the Poultney Volunteer Fire Department for taking time out of their busy schedules.  Members present were:  Hannah Grenier, Mike McLean, Matt Jedlick and Dave Winter- Your contributions to our schools and community are most appreciated!

It was great to see so many of you at the VIP BBQ on Friday!  Kim and the kitchen crew worked extremely hard and provided a delicious meal for all!

If you are interested in joining the PES PTO, please contact Jen at 287-4234 for more information about how to become more involved here at Poultney Elementary School.  Last year there were family dances and a variety of events offered that encouraged fun for the school and families.

We are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to serve as a crossing guard (mornings/afternoons) to assist children as they arrive at school and leave for the day.  This is a great way to start and end your day with children’s smiling faces, and training would be provided.  If you are interested, please contact the school, or the Town Office.  Thank you!

Our Open House will be held on Monday, September 27th from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  This is a time for you to come and see what has been going on in your child’s classrooms.  We hope you can join us!

As always, it is wonderful to be here with you and your children.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call.  We are looking forward to a great year ahead!

Have a nice weekend!
