Principal’s Perspective...
February 3, 2012
Learning has been in full swing with report writing and benchmark assessments in the various grade levels. This month brings us student teachers from Castleton State College as we welcome Katie Hampl to work with Ms. VanGuilder in grade one and Brittany Petteys to work with Mrs. Mahoney in grade five. We also have Zack Hampton from Castleton State who will be working with Mrs. Winter in our Music Department, and Janelle Pease joins our Special Educator, Miss Kelley, through the College of St. Joseph to complete hours for her practicum, as well. It continues to be a benefit to our students and staff as we bridge our connections with our local colleges and community partners.
Once again, Poultney had many students participate in the county-wide 4-H Hippology Competition. We would like to recognize the many students who went on to be successful in their study of horses: in the Cloverbud division Emily Handley, Emma Hayford, Jillian Mulholland and Bailey Philips all received prizes and participatory ribbons; Grace Hayes placed 5th for the 8-9 year olds; in the 10-11 year old division, Kaleigh Brown placed 1st, while Olivia Cook took 8th place; for students in the 12-13 year old division, Justine Mulholland placed 9th, with Dakotah Heuckeroth taking 10th place. We are very proud of our students who studied hard and represented their town and county well!
Were you aware that lemons could act as conductors of energy? I was able to see this occur during a visit to Mrs. Mahoney’s fifth grade last week, and it was pretty amazing! Students created brochures to summarize non-fiction books and informational text that they had been reading, and some decided to accompany their work with a presentation; nice job grade five!
Groundhog’s Day is a big day here at PES, especially in the Kindergarten classrooms. Though the Groundhog saw his shadow, the weather is certainly unpredictable and many days lead us to believe that spring will not be far away!
Please remember to keep sending in those box-tops! The challenge continues until February 17th!
A reminder that the PTO Silent Auction will be held here in the PES Gymnasium on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. They have been working hard and have secured some amazing prizes so be sure to stop by!
Thank you and have a great weekend!
