Classroom Update

The weather has certainly begun to change.  Please make sure your child is prepared to go outside.

In Math, we  have begun  Unit 4.  This is a continuation of addition and subtraction but using those skills in number stories, parts and total number stories, temperatures, estimation, money,  measurement, and identifying the value of digits in multi-digit numbers.  Keep reviewing your basic math facts.  We would love everyone to pass addition math fact masters.

Due to the shortened week we will not be starting a new story.  We will be working on reinforcing all of our Razzle ME Dazzle Me words in our writing.  We are continuing with our writing trait “focus/ideas.”  We know that good writers focus on organization.  We will continue to be using transition words to help us tell our story.  Transition words help us keep order.  Some of the transition words that we will be using include: soon, first, second, then, next, in the end, while, lastly, later, during, and meanwhile. Please remind the children to always answer in a complete sentence any time a question is  asked.  We are also going to continue to discuss contractions and proper nouns.

Please make sure your child is reading everyday for fifteen minutes. This reading becomes evident when we cold score them during our Read Naturally time.  When your child is done reading ask them to retell the story to you and ask them if it reminds them of another story they have read.
