THE COUNSELOR’S CORNER
Upcoming Event:
No Name-Calling Week
will run from January 23rd -27th. No Name-Calling Week was launched in March 2004 as a co-created project of GLSEN and Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing.
The project seeks to focus national attention on the problem of name-calling in schools, and to provide students and educators with the tools and inspiration to launch an on-going dialogue about ways to eliminate name-calling in their communities.
No Name-Calling Week was inspired by a young adult novel, entitled “The Misfits,” by popular author, James Howe. The Misfits tells the story of four best friends who grow tired of the constant teasing in their middle school, and decide to run for student council on a “No Name-Calling” platform.
I hope to have some activities, contests, announcements, and much more! Also, we will have a special theme each day of the week. There will also be a “no-name calling” pledge for everyone to sign.
January 23rd Monday-Give Name-Calling the Slip: Wear Slippers Day
January 24th Tuesday-Wear two different shoes with the theme of walking a mile in another’s shoes can be difficult and eye opening
January 25th Wednesday-Put a cap on name-calling: Wear A Hat
January 26th Thursday-Wear your clothing backwards with the idea that words can hurt and you can’t take them back and that a good person always has another’s back
January 27th Friday-Wear sport’s team regalia because we are all good sports if we treat each other like we are on the same team
Thanks in advance for participating in the No Name-Calling Week here at PES!
