Kathy Schrock’s Guide for Educators ~ this site provides links to websites useful for educators.  Items are grouped by subject/content area as well as by types of “teacher helpers.”

Library of Congress American Memory ~ Includes This Day in History, as well as links to images and items in the Library of Congress’ collections.  This is a great resource to help illustrate historical concepts.  Check out the WPA interviews on stone quarrying in Vermont, or the oral histories…

Online Language Arts games ~ Interactive games that support English Language Arts skills grouped by grade levels, Primary (K-2), Intermediate (3-5), Middle (5-8), and Secondary (9-12).  Activities include vocabulary games, parts of speech, and grammar skills.

Sheppard Software ~ Includes hundreds of educational games, quizzes, and activities related to geography, history, science, and vocabulary skills.

Hooda Math ~ A website with interactive math games and tutorials to support basic math skills/computation.

Regents Prep ~ The Oswego School District developed this website to help students practice and review content for the New York State Regents Examinations.  Interactive practice activities are available here for reviewing Algebra, Geometry, U.S. History, English, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.  Great review tool for students!

Online Basic Skills Games ~ This website was put together by Jefferson County Schools –this link includes activities that support Middle School Science topics including animals, plants, space, and weather. 

Biomes of the World ~ The Missouri Botanical Garden put this website together.  Students can click on the different biomes (tundra, rain forest, taiga, desert, grasslands, and temperate) and learn about the types of plant life and animals found there, along with facts and geographic locations of the world’s different biomes. Also has links to similar websites on marine and freshwater ecosystems!

Discovery Kids Seek Your Own Proof ~ Free website that teachers can sign up for that encourages students to use reading, problem solving, and analysis skills.  Supports science and history.

ROE Library Note-Taking Wiki ~ Webpage that reviews different strategies for note taking and also has links to interactive graphic organizers and additional note taking resources that could be adapted for classroom use.

SmartBoard resources ~ From SMART Exchange, free downloadable templates that can be customized for your classroom use.  Want to create a Jeopardy game to review for a Social Studies or Spanish test?  Interested in creating a classroom calendar to show homework assignments?  This is the place to look!

SmartBoard K-12 tested activities ~ From Lee Summit, MO school district, this website includes links to activities that were designed with the interactive whiteboard or SmartBoard in mind.

Virtual Field Trips and Scavenger Hunts ~ Want to take a field trip to the rain forest?  From the Lee Summit, MO school district, this webpage includes links to virtual field trip websites, such as an interactive tour of Ellis Island and virtual field trips for a variety of nature topics. (and more!!)

Mind 42 ~ Free browser based collaborative mind-mapping application that allows the user to create mind-maps or “webs” to organize ideas/take notes. (This website is mentioned in Instructor magazine article on teaching note-taking skills to middle school students—Holiday, 2011 issue.)

 

Bibliographies Created for History Classes ~ This link will take you to a collection of Google Documents that show what is available in the PHS Library for different units of study in the History/Social Studies curriculum. (Need to sign in/create a Google account to view.)

 

PSAT Review and Practice ~ From the College Board website, this page discusses the different areas of the PSAT exam and also has links to practice questions/problems for each area of the test.

SAT Vocabulary Practice ~ From Sheppard Software, this page includes flash cards and vocabulary quizzes to help students practice vocabulary that may be found on the SAT exam.

I Need a Pencil   ~ Includes lessons, tutorials and practice activities to help students review for the SAT exam.  Site is free but students will need e-mail account to set up their own account.

ACT Math Practice ~ Gives links to games to help practice Math skills needed for the ACT exam
