The SAP
(Student Assistance Program) is a state-wide program, available in
most schools, that works to bridge the gap between prevention and
treatment. The SAP program is a proactive intervention program that
is designed to assist students in need of support. It is based upon
the recognition that personal issues can debilitate a student’s
potential to achieve maximum performance in the learning environment
and in life. The main goal of the SAP program is to enhance
students learning experience by addressing issues that may be
compromising their ability to succeed, within their school setting.
Here at PHS,
Kelli Young coordinates the SAP program. She is a licensed
Psychotherapist and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor. She is
available, at school, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternating
Fridays, during the school year.
Services are
provided in small group format, individual meetings with students or
with the support of other family members present. Referrals to the
SAP program are made by administration, personnel, faculty,
students, or family members and can be made in writing with referral
forms, readily available in the Guidance Office, or by telephone at
287-5861 extension 244.
